Lux Trail vs. Lux World Cup: How to choose? Lux Trail vs. Lux World Cup: Which bike is the right one for you?

The Canyon Lux World Cup CFR is our out-and-out cross-country racing rig, developed in conjunction with our World Cup-level race team. The Lux World Cup CFR features one of the lightest full-suspension XC frames on the market and has been raced to victory by the likes of World Champion Jenny Rissveds at some of the biggest events on the planet. It’s a proven full-suspension mountain bike that’s piloted many of the world’s best riders to podium glory.

While the Lux Trail shares a similar, sleek silhouette with its World Cup CFR cousin, this is no XC race bike. The Lux Trail is a downcountry bike, pure and simple – a lightweight and capable trail bike that blends insanely fast climbing with true trail bike confidence on rowdy descents.

The Lux Trail’s increased suspension travel (140/125mm), downhill-friendly frame geometry, and control-boosting components all let you tackle technical terrain with much more speed and control.

What is the Lux World Cup designed for?

Do you want to race cross-country? If the answer is ‘yes,’ then our Lux World Cup is your ticket to achieving your goals. It’s our lightest full-suspension mountain bike (1.480 kg frame, CFR, size M) and is available in a range of specifications to suit every racer out there – from hardened professionals to aspiring privateers.

From Lenzerheide to Leadville, the Lux World Cup CFR’s race-winning DNA won’t let you down between the tape. The Lux’s 120 mm of front and 110 mm of rear suspension travel gives you the control you need to rocket down the toughest race courses yet is tuned for maximum pedaling efficiency, ensuring that you are even faster when it comes to climbs and finish-line sprints.

The progressive geometry puts you in total control to choose the fastest line on any descent – check out our mountain bike geometry guide to learn how it all works.

Design decisions make all the difference

"We made the Lux World Cup CFR lighter, stronger, and more capable than ever before," says Bastian Langlitz, product manager of the Lux World Cup. "From a geometry perspective, it’s considerably more stable and confident at high speeds, which helps you recover on descents and push harder on climbs. We were able to cut grams from the bike while actually making the frame more durable and even easier to work on. It’s an across-the-board improvement on a bike that was already one of the most dominant XC race bikes on the World Cup circuit."

The Lux World Cup is destined to cross the finish line first. If winning is also in your nature, this is the bike for you.

What is the Lux Trail all about?

The Lux Trail takes everything that’s great about the Lux World Cup CFR, such as a lightweight carbon frame and incredible pedalling efficiency, and then adds a serious dose of downhill capability to the mix.

If long, fast trail rides featuring more technical descents are what you’re after, our Lux Trail might just be the one bike you need. It’s still super light and efficient, but its greater suspension travel, more downhill-oriented geometry, and burlier components make it one of the most versatile, lightweight trail bikes you can find.

Here’s what sets the Lux Trail apart from the Lux:

  • 140 mm front travel
  • 125 mm rear travel
  • More stopping power (180mm rotors, front and rear)
  • Aggressive, trail-riding forks (FOX 36 SL)
  • Slacker head angle
  • Spacious internal storage
  • Guided, thru-frame cable routing (not thru-headset)

These changes give you increased control on the technical sections and make it a more comfortable ride when the going gets tough.

The Lux Trail opens up a whole new world of riding where you can get around in good time but enjoy every aspect of the trails underneath your wheels.

Can I still race the Lux Trail?

Certainly. That said, the Lux Trail is really an ultralight trail bike (instead of a dedicated cross-country race machine). If you do decide to do a bit of racing on the Lux Trail, this bike is best suited to long stage races that involve rugged trails with spicy descents. Think of events like the BC Bike Race, which require true trail-riding capability but also demand efficient pedaling, and instantaneous acceleration.

Which Lux is right for you?

If you’re a cross-country racer whose top priority is beating your times and the competition, then the Lux World Cup CFR is the bike for you. If, on the other hand, you’re a trail rider who wants a bike that lets you cover climbs and kilometers at blazing fast speeds – up and down the trail – then go with the Lux Trail.
